Let’s Make Some Gross Gummies

The gross part of these gummies is supposed to be the molds that are in the shapes of worms and spiders, however the flavor and texture came out weird.

The instruction manual does mention that the gummies “will not turn out exactly the same as commercial store-bought gummies made of gelatin.” And by that they mean not at all like store-bought gummies because these are made with seaweed powder.

If you want real gummies try an American candy shop – affordable candies from the US, rather than the homemade route.

You get two flavor packets: green apple and mixed berry. We made the green apple ones and didn’t bother to make the berry ones after discovering they were pretty yucky.

It was surprisingly challenging to get the gooey mixture to go in the molds and I ended up having to do most of them.

The Science of Gelatinous Materials

The purpose of the Gross Gummy Candy Lab is more than just candy making, it’s a science kit to learn about gelatinous materials.

Inside you’ll find an experiment manual that includes science experiments that my kid had zero interest in unfortunately. He was just in it for the candy.

What Are the Gummies Like?

When we pulled the gummies out of the fridge, they did have a nice shape and looked promising. The downfall was the taste test. The texture was strange, and the flavor was not good.

It did give us something to do for a bit and was interesting mixing it up and putting it in the molds. I’d recommend this kit if you go into it not expecting the final product to be like the gummies you are used to. You have to approach it more like a science experiment.

You could probably use your own molds and create different types of gummies as well, like jelly filled gummies and different flavors.
