My son has a new YouTube channel, and he got a new comment yesterday that just said “promosm” and nothing else. My first thought was that maybe it was something in a different language or a misspelling, but a quick Google search brought up a Reddit thread with over 1,000 people wondering the same thing I was- What is promosm and why are they leaving one-word comments?

What is Promosm?
PromoSM, short for “Promotion Social Media,” has been operating as a paid social media marketing company since 2021. Its primary purpose is to enhance creators’ engagement metrics, including likes, views, and followers, across various social media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitch, Reddit, and others.
According to the company’s website, Promosm . com, users can boost the visibility of their posts and videos by paying them for likes and views. This is not something I would recommend doing, as it is all by bots and the views and likes are all fake. This can ruin your channel’s chance of ever getting real engagement.
Why is Promo SM Leaving Comments?
Promo SM has their own bots working for them, crawling YouTube in search of videos that could use a boost, and then dropping a mysterious comment like promosm or promo sm, which leads you to do exactly what me and all those other Reddit users did -look it up to see what the heck it was.
It’s basically just something to hook you into going to their website, giving them free traffic and promotion. I’m sure a lot of people wanting more views get suckered into buying themselves some YouTube popularity.
Why is it Bad to Buy YouTube Views?
You might be wondering what’s the big deal about buying views beyond it being unethical and deceptive on your part. Buying views compromises the integrity of engagement metrics, making it difficult for creators to gauge their true reach and impact.
Purchased views and likes also provide no genuine interaction or interest in the content, hindering the potential for meaningful connections and authentic community building.
Artificially inflating your stats can also have long-term effects because YouTube’s algorithms prioritize genuine engagement, so artificially boosted metrics can negatively impact a channel’s visibility and growth potential.
Lastly, purchasing views and likes violates YouTube’s terms of service, risking the channel’s standing and future opportunities.
So don’t be tempted by the promosm bot comments! I also recommend deleting them instead of leaving them and letting them get free advertising on your channel. It’s not like losing that one comment will make a big deal on your engagement stats.
What Can You Do to Increase Your YouTube Views Legitimately?
So, if paying for engagement is bad, you may be wondering what you can do to increase your YouTube views in a legitimate way.
Here are some strategies to boost your YouTube views without resorting to unethical practices:
- Create High-Quality Content: Focus on producing engaging, valuable, and high-quality videos. Content that resonates with your audience is more likely to be shared and recommended, ultimately driving more views to your channel.
Making sure you have attention-getting visuals is also helpful. Use things like custom posters or even custom neon signs as the background to attract people’s attention. - Optimize Video Titles and Descriptions: Craft compelling and informative titles and descriptions that accurately represent your video content. Use relevant keywords to enhance the discoverability of your videos through search engines and within YouTube.
- Utilize Tags Effectively: Incorporate relevant and specific tags to categorize your videos and improve their visibility in search results and related video recommendations.
- Invest in Branding: T-shirts and other merchandise can be customized with your channel’s name and logo and used for giveaways. For example, the CustomPens website provides a variety of custom pens which make a great simple giveaway item.
- Encourage Subscriptions and Notifications: Prompt viewers to subscribe to your channel and enable notifications to stay updated with your latest uploads. Building a loyal subscriber base can significantly impact view counts.
- Engage with Your Audience: Foster a sense of community by responding to comments, asking for feedback, and involving your audience in your content creation process. Creating meaningful connections can lead to increased views and shares.
- Collaborate and Cross-Promote: Collaborate with other content creators in your niche to tap into each other’s audiences. Additionally, cross-promote your videos across your social media platforms and blog to attract more viewers to your channel.
By implementing these legitimate strategies, you can organically grow your YouTube views while maintaining the integrity of your content and engagement metrics.
