My 8-year-old son has been asking to start his own YouTube channel for a while now, so I finally set that up for him. I’m the one who does all the posting and managing the account, but I hope to teach him to do that in time. Right now (and for a while) everything has to go through mom before it gets posted.
His channel is at: https://www.youtube.com/@KeelanPlays2015

It’s been a while since I started a new YouTube account, and I am surprised how hard it is to get anyone to watch the videos! I’m used to easily getting 1000 views on most of the shorts I upload on my SewGeekMama channel, so I thought that was just the average amount.
So, I uploaded his videos and no views! The one view he has is from me watching on my account, lol. So now I don’t feel so bad about the videos of mine with only 40 views or so. It’s hard to get views!
I also thought it would get more views because some social media platforms seem to favor new accounts and give them a big push at the start. YouTube seems the opposite, and makes you earn it, I guess.
I also think YouTube is probably overrun with kids playing with toys, so that may be another reason for no views. And we did finally get a comment, but it was just one weird word- promosm, which I had to research because I thought maybe it was something in another language, but it was just comment spam.
But it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He actually wants to make his own channel mostly so he can watch his own videos, lol. He loves watching the videos we make together, but he has to scroll through all my makeup and cosplay posts. So KeelanPlays is all his stuff in one place!
We have fun doing the videos together and it gives us something to do and new things to try. So, even if the views stay small, we’ll still keep posting.
