My Experience Trying BuzzPatch Mosquito Repellent Stickers

The mosquitos seem especially bad this year. So bad that I don’t even want to go outside because I’ll get eaten alive.

I don’t enjoy coating myself in bug spray chemicals to keep them away, so I went searching for an alternative and found the NATPAT BuzzPatch mosquito repellent stickers. (click here to see them on Amazon)

Instead of sprays or lotions, these small stickers attach to your clothing and release a blend of plant-based essential oils designed to help keep mosquitoes away.

They had a lot of positive reviews on Amazon, so I decided to give them a try. I purchased a pack of 48 stickers for about $15.

What is a NATPAT BuzzPatch?

BuzzPatch is a wearable mosquito repellent made by NATPAT (Natural Patch), an Australian company that specializes in adhesive wellness patches for families.

Unlike traditional insect repellents, BuzzPatch stickers are:

  • DEET-free
  • Plant-based
  • Applied to clothing instead of skin
  • Safe for adults and children when used as directed

Each sticker is infused with essential oils that slowly release their scent after the package is opened. To me, they smell strongly of citronella.

What are the Active Ingredients in BuzzPatch?

The active ingredients are plant-based essential oils, primarily:

  • Citronella oil
  • Lemongrass oil

The oils are micro-encapsulated within the fabric of each sticker, allowing them to gradually release their aroma throughout the day instead of all at once.

How Do BuzzPatch Stickers Work?

Mosquitoes locate people using several cues, including the carbon dioxide we exhale, body heat, and body odor.

BuzzPatch doesn’t kill mosquitoes or create an invisible chemical barrier. Instead, the essential oils produce a scent that helps interfere with the cues mosquitoes use to locate people. The goal is to make you less attractive to mosquitoes rather than eliminate them entirely.

Like any natural mosquito repellent, results can vary depending on:

  • Mosquito species
  • Weather conditions
  • Wind
  • How many mosquitoes are present
  • Individual body chemistry

How to Wear BuzzPatch Correctly

BuzzPatch is designed to be placed on clothing, not your body.

For adults, NATPAT recommends using 2 to 4 stickers placed near exposed skin. The idea is to position the stickers close to the areas mosquitoes are most likely to target.

How Long Do They Last?

The company states each sticker can provide protection for up to 8 to 12 hours, depending on environmental conditions. For all-day outdoor activities, replacing the stickers after extended use helps maintain the scent.

Do Mosquito Repellent Stickers Work?

I gave the NATPAT BuzzPatch mosquito repellent stickers a try twice before I got tired of being bitten and gave up. So that’s my honest review with no promotional fluff.

I either don’t have the right body chemistry for this, or our mosquitos are just really hungry and not swayed by scented stickers.

I really wanted them to work! For the first try, I stuck one on the sleeve of my right and left arm. I felt like the mosquitos were buzzing around me and were being repelled, so I do think it affects some of the mosquitos.

But I went inside to check and my legs were covered in bites.

A Second Try, With More Patches

I wasn’t ready to give up! I tried them again the next day, on a dog walk. I stuck them on my sleeves, one on each leg of my shorts, and one on each shoe, just to try and cover my entire body.

So, I was wearing six mosquito repellent stickers. I could smell the citronella wafting off of me as I walked, but the mosquitos didn’t care. The had a feast!

I was covered in bites, head to toe.

The Final Verdict

Unfortunately for me (and my itchy legs and arms), NATPAT BuzzPatch mosquito repellent stickers did not work. But according to many reviews, they apparently do work for some people.

No. BuzzPatch stickers should be attached to your clothing, not your skin. Place them on items like shirt sleeves, shorts, pants, hats, or socks near exposed skin.

What ingredients are in BuzzPatch?

The active ingredients are natural essential oils, primarily citronella and lemongrass. The stickers are DEET-free and contain no synthetic insecticides.

How many BuzzPatch stickers should I use?

NATPAT recommends using 2 to 4 stickers for adults and 2 to 3 stickers for children aged 7–17, placing them on clothing near exposed areas of skin. I tried 6 stickers and still got bitten.

How long does a BuzzPatch sticker last?

Each sticker is designed to provide a gradual release of essential oils for approximately 8 to 12 hours after opening the package, although performance may vary depending on weather and activity levels. You can also reuse the stickers if you just wore them a short time.

Yes. BuzzPatch stickers are made with plant-based ingredients and are intended for use by children when applied to clothing according to the manufacturer’s directions. Young children should always be supervised to prevent them from removing or putting the stickers in their mouths.

They have a heavy citrus scent from the citronella and lemongrass oils. Some people mentioned in their reviews that they couldn’t smell it while wearing it, but I could.

Can the stickers get wet?

The stickers generally stay attached during normal daily activities, but heavy rain, swimming, or excessive sweating may reduce how long they remain effective.

Do BuzzPatch stickers leave residue on clothing?

In most cases, they remove cleanly without leaving noticeable residue, though it’s always a good idea to test them on delicate fabrics first. They did not leave any residue on my shirt or shorts.
