If you’ve seen the viral videos, you know what I’m talking about. They often start with a pretty Asian woman cutting fake chunks off her face, ripping off tape and pulling what looks like a yard of fabric out of her nose. A lot of people wanted to know what the heck are they doing and what are they stuffing up their nose? I went in search of answers.
I also linked the crazy video showing the nose stuffing at the bottom of this post!

What’s with the Nose Stuffing?
The grass is always greener on the other side, and the nose is always slimmer apparently. In an effort to craft a pointier and sharper more European or Western nose, women are resorting to stuffing various things up their noses from pegs to fabric.
The stuffing creates a high bridge, making the nose appear taller, slimmer and even altering the shape of their nostrils, all without plastic surgery.
I searched all over and found many references to the pegs and special inserts used for nose sculpting but could not find any references to the fabric I keep seeing coming out of too many perfectly fine noses. I can only assume it’s some kind of medical gauze, although honestly some of it looks like bunched silk.
I’m guessing that it’s the DIY version of the special inserts. Why buy something when you can just stuff whatever you have lying around up your nose?
There’s even a company in Tokyo called Bibico that designed a product called the “Hanaputti” or “Petite Nose.” It’s a curved insert made to create a high-bridge nose effect when inserted in the nasal cavity.
But wait, there’s more! Out of curiosity, I searched for nose pegs on Amazon and ran across some pretty scary nasal contraptions you can get for just $9.99! They look like small torture devices and promise to actually change the shape of your nose if worn for a long enough time:
According to the Daily Mail UK, this whole Asian nose stuffing trend started in South Korea a couple years ago and has since spread to Japan, China and Taiwan because many women there feel the pointier nose looks more attractive.
Wax Noses and Taped Jawlines
The other transformation methods in the video are more common, like using tape to change your face shape and sculpting new contours with wax. Most of the videos show the women slicing off their noses and sometimes even other parts of their faces.
They use a microcrystalline wax, like Ben Nye Nose and Scar Wax, to sculpt noses into an entirely different shape. You apply the wax over sticky spirit gum, when helps hold it in place. They then recommend covering that in a layer of liquid latex, and finally makeup.

As a side note, this post is the result of that Facebook post linked below, because I left a comment on it asking what the woman was stuffing up her nose. Many people commented back that they were looking for the same answer!

There were many replies mentioning the pegs, wax, and the reason for the stuffing, but still, nobody had an answer as to what the stuffing actually is. It looks like some kind of fabric to me.
So now you know!
