One thing most people who’ve tried kratom can agree on one thing: it tastes awful! Whether it’s a shot or made into a drink, it has a powerful and bitter taste that’s hard to mask. I don’t know how Mitra-9 does it, but they’ve managed to actually make a kratom seltzer that actually tastes good!
I was sent a complimentary sample pack of Mitra-9 to test out and review. I tried both the kava and kratom varieties and liked the kratom the best for both flavor and effect.

Kratom as a Sugar-Free Alternative to Alcohol
I’m doing a modified Dry January where I basically just cut way down on the drinking. It’s more of a Damp January. I tried it last year and my habits actually stuck around, and I cut down on drinking overall. It’s just really easy to reach for a drink (or two) while making dinner.
My new thing is to reach for a Mitra-9 kratom seltzer and drink that instead. Sometimes I even pour it into a martini glass and drop in a cherry to make myself feel like I’m indulging in a fancy drink. It also helps with drinking it more slowly, which is how you want to drink anything with kratom in it.
What is Kratom?
Kratom, also known as Mitragyna speciosa, is a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. Its leaves contain compounds that can have psychotropic (mind-altering) effects.
The two primary active ingredients in kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which interact with opioid receptors in the brain, producing energy in small amounts and sedation, pleasure, and decreased pain in larger amounts.
Kratom is commonly used for pain relief, as a natural treatment for anxiety and depression, or to enhance mood. It can be ingested in various forms, including as a powder, capsule, tablet, tincture, or extract. Some individuals also brew it as a tea or mix it into beverages like seltzers. (like Mitra-9)
Unfortunately, one of the things it’s also known for is being terribly bitter and earthy. So much so, that some I’ve tried were undrinkable. Mitra-9 is unique for being a kratom seltzer that tastes good, with no bitterness.
Use Kratom with Caution
It’s important to note that its safety and effectiveness for long-term use is still under investigation. Therefore, I advise using it with caution and starting with only 1/2 a can to see how it affects you.
You also want to make sure not to try it on an empty stomach, as it can upset your stomach and make you feel queasy if you drink too much, too fast.

Give Mitra-9 a Try
Mitra-9 sells variety packs, which is a good way to go if you want to try out the flavors before investing in a multi-pack. My two favorite flavors are Watermelon and Dragon Fruit, though I actually thought all of their kratom seltzers tasted good.
