I love my Lettuce Grow tower and have been really impressed with the results of hydroponic gardening, both outdoor and indoors. I have greens, herbs and veggies fresh year-round, and all I do is walk over to a corner of my living room to get them!
I have tried hydroponic gardening both inside and outside and actually prefer having it inside because I don’t need to worry as much about pests infesting my garden.

5 Reasons to Try Hydroponic Gardening
Traditional soil-based gardening has long been the go-to method for cultivating plants, but a new approach is rapidly gaining popularity: hydroponic gardening.
Hydroponics involves growing plants without soil, using water-based nutrient solutions. This innovative technique offers numerous benefits and opens up exciting possibilities for aspiring gardeners.
In this blog post, we’ll explore five compelling reasons why you should give hydroponic gardening a try and experience the future of cultivation firsthand.
Hydroponic Towers are Space Efficient
One of the most significant advantages of hydroponic gardening is its space efficiency. With traditional soil gardening, plants require ample space to spread their roots and access nutrients. However, hydroponics eliminates this constraint.
By growing plants in water-based systems, you can cultivate them in smaller spaces, making it ideal for urban environments, balconies, or even indoor settings. Whether you have limited outdoor space or want to grow plants year-round, hydroponics offers a compact and efficient solution.
If you go with a Lettuce Grow system you can start with a smaller (technically just shorter) farmstand and then add pieces on as you like. My pictures show the tallest style tower.
Increased Growth Rates and Yield
Hydroponic gardening provides plants with direct access to water, oxygen, and precisely controlled nutrient solutions. This optimized environment allows plants to grow faster and produce higher yields compared to traditional gardening methods.
With the right balance of nutrients and ideal growing conditions, hydroponically grown plants often exhibit accelerated growth rates, resulting in earlier harvests and more bountiful crops. If you’re eager to enjoy fresh, homegrown produce all year, hydroponic gardening can help you achieve that.

Water Conservation
Traditional gardening requires significant amounts of water, as much of it gets lost through evaporation or seepage. In contrast, hydroponics uses water more efficiently by recirculating it within the system.
The closed-loop nature of hydroponic setups reduces water consumption by up to 90% compared to conventional soil-based methods. By conserving water resources, hydroponic gardening promotes environmental sustainability and allows you to cultivate plants with a smaller ecological footprint.
Precise Control over Nutrients and Growing Conditions
Hydroponic systems grant gardeners unparalleled control over the nutrient composition and pH levels of the nutrient solutions. This level of precision ensures that plants receive an optimal balance of nutrients necessary for their growth and development.
Additionally, environmental factors like light, temperature, and humidity can be fine-tuned in hydroponic setups to create the ideal growing conditions for specific plants. This level of control minimizes the risk of nutrient deficiencies, pests, and diseases, leading to healthier, more robust plants.
With the Lettuce Grow system, they make it easy with an app that tells you how much of each nutrient to put in and when. They also sell the nutrients. I actually tried getting nutrients other places, but theirs have always worked the best.
Year-Round Gardening and Versatility
With hydroponic gardening, seasonal limitations become a thing of the past. By cultivating plants indoors or in climate-controlled environments, you can enjoy year-round gardening, regardless of the weather conditions outside.
This versatility allows you to experiment with a wide range of plants, including herbs, leafy greens, fruits, and flowers, irrespective of their natural growing seasons. Whether you live in a cold climate or simply want to expand your gardening options, hydroponics offers the flexibility to grow plants at any time of the year.

No Worries About Pests
This is a bonus for indoor hydroponic systems! Since I moved my grow towers inside, I haven’t had to worry about pests as much. I say “as much” because aphids have managed to make their way in twice, but I think it was due to the seedlings I was getting from Lettuce Grow.
I love their seedlings, but twice now after ordering plants through them, my farmstand had an aphid infestation. The last time was so bad that tried combatting the aphids with ladybugs as natural pest control.
But overall, you don’t need to worry about pests like slugs, hornworms, and other things that can devour a garden overnight.
A Transformative Approach to Gardening
Hydroponic gardening represents a transformative approach to cultivation, offering numerous benefits over traditional soil-based methods.
From space efficiency and increased growth rates to water conservation and precise control over growing conditions, hydroponics empowers gardeners to explore new possibilities and embrace sustainable practices.
By trying hydroponic gardening, you can create a thriving garden in limited spaces, enjoy year-round cultivation, and contribute to a greener and more resource-efficient future. It’s time to take the plunge into this innovative and rewarding method of gardening.
