If you are a parent, you’ve most likely heard of Italian Brainrot and may have even run across the Tung Tung Tung Sahur song and wondered what this Brainrot stuff is all about. I have answers!
My son loves the Brainrot, but confused me one day when he asked, “What’s Sahur?,” referring to the line in the song.
He told me his friend’s mom said it was a bad word and not to say it.
And that’s because it actually sounded like he was asking, “What’s a whore?” oops….
When I finally figured out what he was trying to say, and cover up my earlier explanation that he found VERY confusing, I sat down to research what the heck a Sahur really is.
Tung Tung Tung Sahur
Tung Tung Tung Sahur is an Brainrot character published on the 28th of February, 2025. It looks like an anthropomorphic stick and carries a bat as a weapon.
Although considered part of Italian Brainrot, it has Indonesian origin. The “Tung Tung Tung” in its name is onomatopoeia of how Indonesians traditionally beat bedug drums to commence Sahur, the pre-dawn meal that Muslims eat before fasting during Ramadan.

The Song Translated to English
“Tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung Sahur. A terrifying anomaly that appears during Sahur. It is said that if someone is called for sahur three times and does not answer, then this creature will come to your house.
Ahhh, how scary! This Tung tung usually makes a sound like a gong like this. Tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung, tung! Share this with your friends who have trouble eating sahur.”
So, according to the song, if you are called for “Sahur” three times and do not respond, then “Tung Tung Tung Sahur” will come for you with his bat!
What is Sahur?
Sahur (sometimes spelled suhoor) is the pre-dawn meal eaten by Muslims before the daily fast begins during the holy month of Ramadan. It takes place before the fajr (dawn) prayer, right before sunrise, when the fast officially starts.
The purpose of Sahur is both practical and spiritual. Practically, it provides energy and hydration to sustain someone throughout the long day of fasting without food or drink.
Spiritually, it is considered a blessed practice; Prophet Muhammad encouraged Muslims to eat Sahur, even if it is just a sip of water, because of the blessings (barakah) it brings.
What Exactly Is Italian Brainrot?
Italian Brainrot is a meme style that took off in 2025, fueled largely by generative AI tools and the creativity of meme-makers.
It features bizarre hybrid creatures, objects with personalities, and characters with names that sound vaguely Italian, often ending in playful suffixes like -ini, -ello, or -ino.
Videos typically come with text-to-speech narration, either in Italian or with exaggerated Italian accents, and the “plotlines” lean into pure absurdism: crocodiles fused with bombers, ballerinas with cappuccino heads, and sharks with three legs wearing Nikes. It’s nonsensical, but that’s the charm, and kids love it.
Italian Brainrot Characters
While the Italian Brainrot world is sprawling, a few characters stand out as fan favorites:
- Tralalero Tralala – A three-legged shark sporting blue Nikes. Often seen battling other creatures, he’s considered one of the original mascots of the trend.
- Bombardiro Crocodilo – A crocodile fused with war machinery. He’s frequently pitted against Tralalero in chaotic fight scenes.
- Tung Tung Tung Sahur – An anthropomorphic wood plank with a baseball bat. His name references Indonesian culture, giving him an oddly global twist.
- Ballerina Cappuccina – A ballerina whose head is a cappuccino cup. She’s graceful, whimsical, and often paired romantically with Cappuccino Assassino.
- Cappuccino Assassino – A cappuccino cup with legs and a weapon. He’s darker, more dangerous, and sometimes portrayed as an antihero.
- Brr Brr Patapim – A forest-creature hybrid with a touch of poetry in his lore, making him one of the more whimsical additions.
Other characters like Lirili Larila, Chimpanzini Bananini, and Bombombini Gusini fill out the universe, each stranger than the last.
What Brainrot Means
Seems like my son is always talking about “brainrots.”
The term “brainrot” is internet slang that’s been around for a while, but in meme culture it’s taken on a very specific meaning. At its core, “brainrot” refers to content you consume so much that it feels like it’s rotting your brain — usually because it’s absurd, repetitive, or chaotic to the point of being stuck in your head.
Instead of calling it “low-brow entertainment” or “junk content,” people lean into the humor of describing it as rotting their brains.
A Few Key Traits of Brainrot Content
- Endlessly repeatable: Sounds, catchphrases, or visuals that loop in your head long after you close the app.
- Absurdity as the main appeal: Often makes little logical sense, but that’s why it’s funny.
- Community-built lore: Fans start remixing, expanding, and layering the joke until it turns into its own ecosystem.
- “So bad it’s good” energy: The chaos is the point — you’re not supposed to take it seriously.
And if you actually look up the Tung Tung Tung Sahur song, you’ll understand how it gets stuck in your head!
