What Are Ombre Powder Brows?

Ombre powder brows are a semi-permanent eyebrow shading technique that creates a soft, gradient effect, similar to the look of filled-in brows with makeup. It’s more natural looking than microblading and has an easier healing process.

This method is achieved using a machine similar to a tattoo gun to deposit pigment into the skin, giving a powdered, airbrushed appearance that fades from lighter at the front of the brows to darker at the tails. (aka ombré)

How It Works:

A technician uses a small tattoo machine with a fine needle to apply layers of pigment, building up the desired intensity.

The difference between this and a regular tattoo is that it is just one very fine needle, and it only goes down one layer. This is why it’s called a “temporary tattoo” and will fade in time. Regular tattoos use multiple needles at once and go down deeper into your skin.

Unlike microblading, which creates individual hair-like strokes, ombre powder brows result in a softer, filled-in look.

Benefits of Ombre Powder Brows:

  • Long-lasting: Typically lasts 1–3 years with proper care. My brow person said most people get a yearly touch-up.
  • Less invasive: Causes less trauma to the skin than microblading.
  • Suitable for all skin types: Works well on oily or sensitive skin, which may not hold microblading strokes as well.
  • Customizable: Can be tailored for a soft or bold look, depending on preference.

The Ombre Powder Brow Process

I got my brows done by Jenna at Wicked Beauty Jax, in Jacksonville, FL. She starts by doing a graph on your face to map out “the perfect brow” for your face.

The Perfect Brow Graph

To map the perfect brow shape for your face, start by identifying three key points: the start, arch, and end of your brows.

Align a pencil vertically from the side of your nose to determine where your brows should begin.

For the arch, angle the pencil from the tip of your nose through the center of your iris.

To find the ideal brow tail, position the pencil diagonally from the nose to the outer corner of your eye.

Once you’ve mapped the shape, connect the points with a brow pencil and check for symmetry.

Once she drew on the graph and wiped off the excess lines, it was still a little scary looking. I was worried about having too much brow, but trusted Jenna and the process.

Getting My Eyebrows Tattooed

Once the graph is done, she applied numbing gel, which I was very happy about. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain, and I was a little scared about getting my face tattooed!

After about 20 minutes, she started the tattooing process. It didn’t hurt! It actually tickled a little. She did one brow, put more gel on and then did the other, and then went back over them.

Watch Me Get Ombre Powder Brows:

Ombre Powder Brows Aftercare

For the ombre powder brow aftercare, I was given a little kit with a spoolie brush, healing ointment and a card that shows the stages of healing.

The Power Brow Aftercare Rules Are:

  • Do not get brows wet for 24 hours.
  • No makeup until the brows are healed.
  • Sleep on your back for one week. (I did not do this. I’m a side sleeper!)
  • Apply ointment as recommended.
  • No touching or picking scabs! (I used the ointment and didn’t really have to deal with scabs)
  • No Botox or facials for 1 week.
  • No swimming, sauna or tanning for 2 weeks. (I waited 5 days)

Ombre Powder Brows Healing process

The card she gave me explained the healing process quite well. On the first day, and for the next few days it warned they might be a little dark looking. However, mine never really seemed too dark.

This is me on Day 2:

The card says Days 5-7 are going to be itchy and possibly scabby. They are right about the itching! I’m at Day 7 now and the itching is finally stopping. But the last few days were quite itchy, and the ointment really helped with that.

Days 8-10 the brows are supposed to lighten up, and I can see mine have started to be a bit lighter. By 4-6 weeks the color is supposed to return and settle in, and then at 5 weeks it’s time for the touch-up to fine tune where you might need more color.

How Long Do Ombre Brows Last?

How long the results last will be different for everyone, depending on your lifestyle. We are in Florida, where everyone is exposed to the sun all the time, so Jenna said most people need an annual touch-up.

Everyone’s brows will fade a bit, but the overall time it is supposed to last is 1-3 years.

So Happy to Have Brows!

I love waking up with eyebrows ready to go. She did a great job on the shape and color. They look like my natural brows, only better!

I highly recommend Ombre Powder brows if you always have to fill in your brows, even a little, when you do your makeup. It really makes a difference!

And if you are local, go see Jenna at Wicked Beauty Jax. She does an awesome job and makes you feel very comfortable about the whole process.

Ombre Powder Brow Update After 5 Weeks

The ombre brow healing process was pretty smooth. It was a little itchy but never got scabby.

I did have some spots that didn’t take the color as much, so I was looking forward to my 5-week touch-up.

I will be honest that I did not follow the aftercare instructions exactly, as you may have noticed from my notes above. My eyebrows were fine though!

The touch-up did not take long at all- about 45 minutes total, and that includes the time it takes for the numbing cream to settle in.

There’s no brow graph for the touch-up. You just point to where you want a little more and they fill it in.

I took a pic in natural light, and did not add any filters or anything, so this is how my brows look now.

I’m super happy with the natural looking results and totally recommend getting powder brows.
