My Lashes Look Singed After Lash Lift

I tried an eyelash lift for the first time and something went wrong. My lashes look overprocessed and singed, like I got too close to a fire. They are bit mangled looking, and some are over curled on the ends like a little loop. This is making them curl back and poke me in the eyelid and it is absolutely driving me crazy. Obviously, this is not the ideal outcome.

What a Bad Lash Lift Looks Like

See my close-up photos below for what my lashes look like right after the lash lift.

The Lash Lift Process

A lash lift is a beauty treatment designed to enhance the curl and appearance of natural lashes. It involves curling the lashes using a chemical solution, which sets the lashes in the curled position. It’s basically a perm for your lashes. The solution they use even smells the same as the perm solution I remember from the 80s!

I tried eyelash extensions before, and they were a bit too much for me. They also took a lot of upkeep. I thought a lash lift might give my little lashes a bit of oomph and make it look like I was wearing mascara.

Unfortunately, it does look like I’m wearing mascara, just really bad clumpy mascara I slept in and then lit on fire.

The process of a lash lift typically includes these steps:

  1. Preparation: The eyes and lashes are thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup or oils. The lower lashes are then secured to prevent them from getting caught up in the lifting solution.
  2. Lifting: A silicone or similar rod is applied to the eyelids, over which the lashes are meticulously positioned using an adhesive. A lifting solution is then applied to the base of the lashes, lifting them from the root.
  3. Setting: After the lifting solution has been on for the required time, a setting solution is applied to secure the lashes in their new curled position.
  4. Nourishing and Tinting (optional): Some procedures also include nourishing the lashes and applying a tint to enhance their color and definition.
  5. Removal and Final Finishing: Once the lashes have been lifted and set, the rod and adhesive are removed, and any residue is gently cleansed away.

Lash Lift Gone Wrong

When done correctly, this treatment creates the appearance of longer, more voluminous lashes without the use of extensions.

But if the solution is left on too long or the wrong size rod is used, it can do what you see with my lashes. Over curled lashes that poke you in the eyelid and clumpy weird lashes.

I went to a local spa to have mine done and the woman who did them was so nice. She mentioned how she always takes her time to make sure they are done well. This isn’t the normal outcome, and I don’t want to blast the spa so if you are local and want to know where I had it done, just message me.

I thought they looked a bit weird right after- like much shorter. I figured it was because they were curled back. I thought maybe my lashes were just too short to get a good lift. I can’t see close-up, so I couldn’t really see what my lashes were doing until I got home and looked into a magnifying mirror. And then I was like….yikes.

How to Relax Lashes After a Bad Lift

I do not want to be stuck with these lashes for 4-6 weeks waiting for them to grow out, so I’ve been trying to get them to relax a bit at home.

I had express instructions to avoid getting them wet right away, steamy showers and steam in general, so the first thing I did the next morning was get in the hot tub, followed by a steamy shower.

I’ve also been putting coconut oil on them, and that had the most immediate effect. They relaxed a bit to the point where they aren’t poking me as bad. I can still feel it though.

I could go back to the salon and ask about getting them relaxed, but I’m worried I might damage my lashes and they might break off and look worse.

So, I got some more of my favorite lash serum on Amazon and plan to start using that again. It does work, but it takes a couple weeks before you start seeing any results. In the meantime, I plan to keep up with the steam and oil treatments.

What You Can Do to Relax Lash Lift at Home

  1. Hot steamy showers
  2. Warm compress on eyes
  3. Coconut Oil or Vaseline on lashes
  4. Eyelash curler in opposite direction

I plan to keep trying ALL these things until my lashes look somewhat normal. They more they relax the better they look. But some of them are still like little curly cues on the ends! I really wish I had a better outcome with this, but oh well. I guess I’ll stick to my falsies when I want a big lash boost.

Update after One Month

My lashes have pretty much just broken off and I currently have short stubby lashes. I’ve been using the growth serum, but I think my lashes have been too busy just breaking off for them to grow. It will probably take another month before I see decent results. But at least they aren’t curling back and poking me in the eyelid anymore!

Four Months Later

My lashes are finally pretty much back to normal. I think I’ll just stick to mascara from now on!
